Polyhedron
A polyhedron is a 3d shape created from many polygons! They are stunning to look at, and fun for any elementary student to try to draw, make, take apart,
figure out. The last thing they should do is induce the cold sweats!
A polyhedron (plural: Polyhedra) is very simply defined as a three dimensional (3d) shape, composed of flat faces and straight edges.
The flat faces DO NOT have to be the same to make a polyhedron, however the DO have to be the same to make a Platonic solid.
As far as the Platonic Solids go, K6 students are only required to be able to identify them.
However the polyhedra that a K6 student must be familiar with are the prisms, cube, cuboids and pyramids.
This section of the site, I have really just created for a bit of fun. My son loves these shapes for their 'funkey' names. He treats them as
tongue twisters, more than wanting to know any specific math about them! And since geometry should be fun - why not!
So, having said that, bellow are some images of figures that are not Platonic Solids
or regularly studied by K6 students.
Simply click on an image to be taken to more detailed information about each one.
